Tips in Losing Weight
Your weight can be a powerful thing. It affects so many aspects of your life. Not only does your weight affect the way people see you but also affect the way you see yourself. It affects your self-esteem and the way you view life. Overweight people are also more susceptible to various health risks such as hypertension, muscle strains, heart problems, diabetes, cancer and a whole lot more.
Although losing weight seem normal for people who only need to shed a few pounds, it is an entirely different arena for people who have to shed more than 30 pounds of weight. Losing that much calories takes a lot of commitment, courage and sacrifice because there are a lot of things that you have to change and to give up in your life.
What you eat
One of the primary things that you have to change is the food that you eat. If you have ended up overweight, chances are the food that you take are oily and fatty. Americans nowadays are so much into foods that are fatty and greasy such as French fries, sodas and sweet foods like chocolates. If you want to lose weight, you have to cut back on your intake of these kinds of food and instead eat healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables and lots and lots of water. You will also have to give up junk foods such as chips and tortillas.
How you eat
Experts believe that how a person eats can affect the weight that he gains. For instance, studies have shown that people who eat slowly are more likely to weigh less than people who gobble up food in seconds. This is because taking your time and chewing your food properly will help your body digest it. When it reaches the stomach and the small intestine, half of the battle has already been fought.
Another method that experts believe will aid in weight loss is the eating of small amounts of food. Don’t get this wrong. This does not mean that you have to starve yourself and just eat really miniscule servings of food. Experts advice people to eat as many time in a day as they want as long as they the food slowly and that they eat only small amounts. That way, the body can easily digest them.
Your activity level
Studies have shown that food is not actually the reason behind the sudden surge of obesity cases in the country. In fact, compared to previous decades, people after the millennium eat less amounts of food perhaps because of the emphasis placed on appearances as seen on TV and movies. What was found is that it is the less amount of physical activity that people engage in. People no longer use the stairs when going to the next floors.
Even when they are just going to the next floor, they use the elevators or the escalators. People rarely walk anymore. Except when taking the subway, people would rather drive than walk. Modern technology in office has reduced the times that people will get off their seats and walk. Some office equipment can be operated while sitting in your cubicle.
A person who want to lose weight need not go to gym to work out, they only just have to make a conscious effort to walk around and move. Of course for some, having the equipment and the regimen will largely help in keeping the motivation burning.
